1 Corinthians 4
SERVANT OF CHRIST

It seems almost everyone wants recognition for who they are and what they do. That’s one of the reasons some people display all their academic credentials after their name on their business cards. That’s why we want our name in lights, our faces in the newspapers, and the memories of ourselves to live on.

One man who could have boasted about his credentials (and he did when he felt pushed into it) was Paul. But Paul didn’t boast in order to gain the wow factor from all his admirers. Paul saw himself, and wanted other people to see him, as an ordinary person with one difference: He was a servant of Christ. This is what he said, “This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.” (1 Corinthians 4 v 1 ESV).

What about us? Are we humble enough to present ourselves as simple servants of Christ? Can we let go of all the other things that make us stand out from the crowd and say, “Don’t look at me, look at Christ. I am just his servant.”? In the end all our qualifications and achievements won’t matter a hoot. What will matter is whether we have been a faithful servant of Christ.

May we be servants of Christ this weekend.
