Shalom,

Exodus 37
CHERUBIC ATTITUDE

Bezalel made the ark, the mercy seat, and “of one piece with the mercy seat he made the cherubim on its two ends. The cherubim spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, with their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat were the faces of the cherubim.” (Exodus 37 v 8 – 9 ESV).

The position of the cherubim over the mercy seat tells us a lot about the attitude we should have toward the grace and mercy shown to us through our Lord Jesus Christ. The cherubim were overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings spread out above. This looks to as if they were guarding the mercy seat.

The faces of the cherubim looked inward toward the mercy seat. Our faith in the forgiveness shown to us through Jesus Christ. We need to be looking toward him every day. “Our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he has mercy upon us.” (Psalm 123 v 2).

So like the cherubim, let us always have our eyes on the mercy of God and protect it with all that we are.

May the grace of God be in our hearts this week.

With love in our Lord,
Robert

How to Stay ‘Fresh and Green’

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree… planted in the house of the Lord… They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, ‘The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.’” (Psalm 92 v 12 – 15).

This concept from Psalm 92 is inspiring: If I can aspire to become a righteous person, then I will still be able to bear fruit and flourish in old age. Despite my body ageing and physically declining, I can remain ‘fresh and green.’ My inner self can remain young, supple and useful.

The part that particularly caught my attention was the attitude that righteous people nurture. The way they stayed ‘fresh and green’ was to build a strong picture of God’s character, and tell others about it. “The Lord is upright,” they proclaim, “He is my rock, and there is no wickedness in Him.”

This picture of God’s character can help us flourish, even when our world is falling apart, when life doesn’t make sense, or the tunnel seems long and dark.
It helps us remain ‘fresh and green’ rather than become withered, bitter and twisted.

We will need to keep practising and reminding ourselves of it, however, so that it can become embedded in our hearts as a deep and abiding assurance.

So, this is my proclamation today – and I hope to remind myself of these sentiments regularly!:
The Lord is Great! He is upright and Holy. He is my Rock – solid, dependable; a fortress to whom I can run. There is no wickedness in Him, and therefore He is working everything for good (even if some things don’t make sense to me!).

I encourage you to grow a strong picture of God’s character, and to share it with others. This is the way we stay ‘fresh and green.’

With love,
Sharon.
