Leviticus 3
PEACE AND FELLOWSHIP

The peace offering, otherwise known as the fellowship offering, was the offering a person made when they were going to kill a cow (or bull), sheep or goat to eat. We need to remember that in the wilderness, and even once the Israelites were settled in the promised land, they had no refrigeration and no way of keeping meat for any length of time. Having bought the meat of half a cow once, I can tell you that there is a lot of meat to eat!

So in killing an animal, in order not to waste it, the meat needed to be shared, probably with a lot of people. No wonder it was known as the fellowship offering or the peace offering. Sharing the meat of a beast around the dining room table (or the campfire) would have been a great time of fellowship and would have promoted peace together.

Let’s never lose the spirit of the fellowship offering. While we may not need to eat a whole beast at once, we should still share our meals together with others in the spirit of fellowship and peace.

May the love and peace of God flow from us to each other this weekend.

With love in our Lord,
Robert

Te Moko-ika-hiku-waru faithfully followed the Tainui canoe all the way from Hawaiiki and came to settle in the deep waters at the entrance to the Panmure Basin, guarding the waterways and his tribe from danger. But one day everything changed…
