Psalm 107
CAN REBELLION BE FORGIVEN?

Too many people think they can’t be forgiven because they have rebelled against God too many times. The psalmist deals with this attitude when he says, “Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.” (Psalm 107 v 17 – 18 NIV). These people had rebelled and turned right away from God; they spiritually starved themselves by not reading God’s word or praying.

But listen to what happened next: “Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.” (v 19 – 20).

No matter how bad our rebellion or how big our sin, God is still listening for our cry for help. He will race in to rescue us, to feed us with his healing word and to save us from death. What an awesome God we have!

Let us “give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind. Let [us] sacrifice thank-offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.” (v 21 – 22).

May we give thanks to God for his great love toward us today.
