Leviticus 19
BEARING A GRUDGE

The most bitter people I know are the ones who are bearing a grudge. Someone has wronged them at some time in the past and they cannot forgive or let go. Their greatest wish is that something bad will happen to the subject of their grudge allowing them gloating rights. But even then, that would not be enough.

The problem with carrying a grudge is that usually the person who caused the grudge is hardly aware of the effect they are having on the person carrying the grudge. In the meantime, the holder of the grudge becomes bitter, often sick, and joyless. Carrying a grudge only hurts ourselves.

Carrying grudges is bad for us. Not only are they bad for us, but they separate us from God. Furthermore, we can’t even blame anyone else for the results the grudge causes when it is us carrying the grudge ourselves.

God gave us some life-saving advice when he said, “You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbour as yourself: I am the LORD.” (Leviticus 19 v 18 ESV).

May we show the love of God in our lives this week.

With love in our Lord,
Robert
