IF YOU HAVE IT SHARE IT

The lesson of the rich man and Lazarus has puzzled me over the years. Apart from one man being rich and the other poor, there seems to be nothing worthy of judgment in it. But here is a thought. Let’s start with the description of the rich man: “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.” (Luke 16 v 19). This man had been given everything he needed by God. In fact, he had been given so much that he had too much. He even had so much food that it fell from his table.

The description of Lazarus goes like this: “At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with soresand longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.” (v 20 – 21). Lazarus had nothing. He had so little, he was starving and reduced to begging.

Here is the lesson: the rich man who had been so blessed by God with much more than he needed, should have shared his blessing with the people around him. We are not told, but I suspect that if Lazarus had been given two pieces of bread, he would have shared one with someone else.

If we have been given plenty, the let’s share what we have been given. It’s not just for us. God has blessed us so that we can bless others.
