Proverbs 21
STORED UP

A massive cyclone is expected to make landfall over the North Island of New Zealand in the next few hours. Forecasters and authorities have been telling us to be prepared. They recommend we have enough food, water, medicines and survival equipment for at least three days. This preparation goes for any emergency: earthquakes, floods, volcanos and even war. As a result, most people have prepared and have some supplies stored away.

It is a sensible thing to have a stock of food and whatever else we need stored up for tomorrow, because we have no idea what will happen in the future. Emergencies can happen without any warning at all.

The wise man said, “The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.” (Proverbs 21 v 20). I don’t think the wise man was speaking only about food and oil. Jesus used this proverb when he spoke about the parable of the Ten Bridesmaids in Matthew 21 v 1 – 13. Five of the bridesmaids had stored up oil to get them through to the wedding. They were the wise ones who were let into the wedding banquet. We also need to store up joy, the word of God, or whatever it is that keeps us fed and excited to be in Christ before he comes.

Let’s be prepared by having food for our faith stored up for when we need it.

Let’s build up our faith in God this weekend.

With love in our Lord,
Robert

It’s a tough life as an orphan, abandoned at birth, left all alone to fend for yourself while experiencing hunger pains like you have never experienced before. But even when life is awful, good things can happen.
