Deuteronomy 6
THE ANSWER

Someone is going to ask us why we are a Christian and why we live a different lifestyle to everyone else. If you are anything like me, we can sometimes find it difficult and even confronting to answer the question on the spur of the moment. But in Deuteronomy 6, God gives us the answer in the context of Israel coming out of Egypt. It is found in Deuteronomy 6 verses 20 – 25. Here is my summary of it in a Christian context for today:
I was a slave to sin and my only prospect was death. I despised myself. But God powerfully worked in my life and took my sins away. He gave me freedom from guilt, from condemnation and from everything I despised. He loves me and he saved me. He has promised me his kingdom and everlasting life where everything is going to be perfect. He has made me part of his family. That’s why I do what God wants me to. When I obey him and love him with all my heart, he overlooks my sin and gives me more grace than I will ever deserve.
May we be prepared to give an answer for our faith this weekend.
With love in our Lord,
Robert
