Isaiah 16
THRONE OF LOVE

In the midst of a prophecy concerning the destruction of Moab, there is a glimmer of hope. God never leaves us without hope, and the hope offered to Moab is one we can all look forward to. “In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it – one from the house of David – one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness.” (Isaiah 16 v 5).

The fulfilment of this prophecy will be complete when Jesus sits on the throne of David as King in Jerusalem over Israel and the whole world. When we think of his reign, we think of the prophecies that speak of righteousness justice and peace, but one aspect that needs our attention is that of love. “In love a throne will be established.”

Our politicians are elected but I have never seen them open parliament in love! Once power is established, the need to show love seems to go out the door. Politicians, kings, presidents and any other national leaders have the reputation of being self-centred, greedy, spreading rumours about people who oppose them, creating factions and disunity. But love is the opposite.

What a refreshing change we can look forward to with Jesus as king. He will be a king who is patient, kind, not rude or self-seeking, not easily angered, forgiving, joyful, protective, delighting in truth and who keeps on doing what is right. What an awesome hope we have!

May God give us hope this week.

With love in our Lord,
Robert
