Isaiah 40
POWERFUL BUT CARING

We live just down the road from a mountain. Well actually, it’s a large volcanic hill with a crater in the top. Over the years people have taken a chunk out of its side as they quarried volcanic rock, but compared to the size of the hill, in all those years of effort, they have only made a small gash in the side of the hill. The hill still stands.
Isaiah asked, “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?” (Isaiah 40 v 12). The answer is God.
Ours is only a small mountain but there is more dirt and rock in it than I could ever weigh, and neither could I find a pair of scales big enough to carry it. But God knows what it weighs. He also knows how much water there is in the sea, he knows the extent of the heavens, he knows how much dust there is on the earth, how many hairs you have on your head, and how many grains of sand there are on the beach. Yet for all that, “He tends his flock like a shepherd: he gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.” (v 11).
The most powerful God ever cares for you and me. If that is the case, let’s put all our trust in him.
May we rest in the love and care God has for us this week.
With love in our Lord,
Robert
