THE POWER OF GRACE
If you are not a sinner, you don’t need to read this. But if you are like me and have a tendency to sin, to feel separated from God, to wonder if you will ever get it right, then this will bring you hope. In fact, this should give us confidence to carry on, to keep trying, to practice staying pure, and to be sure of God’s grace when we fall.
Listen to these words: “For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.” (Romans 5 v 17 – 18 ESV).
Our sin is inherited from Adam. It gets passed down from generation to generation like a stack of dominoes falling one after the other. But in Christ there is much more grace than the single act of one domino pushing over the next one. These are the words Paul used: much more, abundance, grace, free gift, and justification. Adam’s sin has much less power over us than God’s grace through Christ.
The power is there for us to defeat sin through the grace of God and to reign in life through Jesus Christ. Wow!
