1 Kings 10
HARD QUESTIONS

“When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the LORD, she came to test Solomon with hard questions.” (1 Kings 10 v 1). We learn later that the Queen of Sheba had heard reports about Solomon’s wisdom, but it was not his wisdom she came to test with her hard questions, it was Solomon’s relation to the name of the LORD. In the end, “Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her.” (v 3).
We have probably not been given the wisdom of Solomon. But that’s okay. It was not his wisdom that was important; it was his relation to the name of the LORD that was important. Our relationship with God is what is important to us too.
In just the same way as the Queen of Sheba arrived to test Solomon with hard questions, so we will also be tested at various times with hard questions which probe our relationship to the name of the LORD.
Peter, speaking about us having Jesus Christ in our hearts said, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3 v 15).
So let’s be ready for the hard questions. With some prior thought and with God’s help, we will be able to give people answers that leave them glorifying God.
May we grow in our relationship with God this weekend.
With love in our Lord,
Robert
