Luke 6
CRAVINGS
We all experience cravings. Cravings for approval, gossip, alcohol, pornography, violence, food, coffee, sex, or whatever it is that gives us that dopamine boost we desire. Most often our cravings (I speak from personal experience) are for sinful things. Despite the fact that I want and crave them, they are not what God wants in my life. He wants me to full fill up on him.
This is what Jesus said about our cravings: “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.” (Luke 6 v 21 ESV). In other words, if we starve ourselves from the sin we crave (which in my experience never satisfies anyway) then God will fill us up and satisfy us.
Jesus also said, “Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry.” (v 25). If we fill ourselves up with the sin we hunger for now, then we will never have a chance to be satisfied in the kingdom of God or to find out what it is like to be filled up by God.
So let’s choose to go hungry and starve ourselves from sin and the things we crave, so God can fill us up and satisfy us at the right time.
May we hunger and thirst for God this week.
With love in our Lord,
Robert
