John 12
LOVE JESUS MORE

How committed are we to Christ? In the days of his ministry many people believed in him. Some of them believed Jesus, gave up everything and followed him. But others, even though they believed Jesus, had problems giving up everything to follow him.

“Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.” (John 12 v 42 – 43).

Maybe we think that we would never be like this, but it is very easy to do. We may have refrained from telling our friends we are Christians for fear of what they might think about us. Perhaps we feel embarrassed to pray on our knees or lift up our hands as we pray in church. It is possible that when decisions are made, we go along with the crowd, or with those who are popular, to save standing alone and doing the right thing for Christ.

Could we have been caught in the same trap as the leaders of the Jews, even in some small way? It might be hard, but let us show total devotion to Jesus, loving him more than we love our own pride and ourselves.

May we show total devotion this week.

With love in our Lord,
Robert
