2 Chronicles 34
EARLY CHOICES

“Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for thirty-one years. He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and followed the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.” (2 Chronicles 34 v 1 – 2).
We asked our children what they would do if they became kings or queens, and one of our children, our 8-year-old, was adamant that she would close the schools so that children would not have to go to school any more. Many other 8-year-olds would say similar things. I even recall discussing the same things with friends when I was a child and remember some of the bizarre rules we would have hath enforced if we had become kings as children.
So it is to Josiah’s credit that he became the king he was. It is so easy, especially in those early years as a child and during the impulsive years as a teenager, to make unwise decisions because they appeal to us at the time. Instead Josiah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
Even as children we, like Josiah, have the ability to choose between right and wrong. As teenagers and beyond we have even more experience and knowledge to base our actions on. Let us whether we are young or old, choose to follow the way of Josiah, to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord.
May we make godly decisions this week.
With love in our Lord,
Robert
